Dublin’s Gig and Sport Guide for September!
The Summer is coming to an end and The Marlin Hotel gets set to open its doors in Dublin 2.
With September just around the corner we have created a list of things to see and do all within walking, cycling or tram distance from the Marlin Hotel doors.
Shows:
Our first pick is to see the amazing Sean OB on September 4th live in the famous Whelan’s bar on Wexford ST. Whelan’s who celebrates its 30th Birthday this year has hosted some incredible guests including Jeff Buckley, David Gray, Ed Sheeran and many more. Sean OB is a songwriter and musician with a voice and attitude that's unmistakable. Displaying remarkable skills as a songwriter with poignant lyrics set to ferociously catchy rock 'n' roll melodies Sean writes with a hard-hitting no nonsense approach.
A truly unforgettable experience to see a live act in an Irish Institution. Whelan’s is located just a five-minute stroll from our front door.
Next on our list is to witness The Miami Showband Story 17th – 21st of September, even if you’re too young to remember the 60’s and 70’s, this is still the show for you. Told through the eyes of two best friends and Miami songwriters, Fran O‘Toole and Des Lee, The Miami weaves us through the amazing roller coaster story of the iconic showband. The Miami will take you through the joyous dancehall days of the 1960’s and “Spit On Me Dickie” to the tragedy in 1975. Following on from the Netflix release of the Miami Showband documentary this really is a must see and with the Gaiety only a three-minute walk from our front door you couldn’t pick a better location than the Marlin Hotel.
Finally, there is two big gigs on in the 3Arena this September, Ariana Grande 22nd & 23rd of September and Khalid on September 24th, these two acts need no introduction and will be two of the best concerts happening in September. With the tramline (Luas) at our doorstep the Marlin Hotel is ideal for all 3Arena concerts.
Riverdance:
An absolute must see here in Ireland and with it on our doorstep you have no excuse to miss this sensational performance. Running until September 15th.
Fleabag Live:
See the award-winning, one-woman show that inspired the BBC's hit TV series Fleabag, broadcast Live from London's West End. Here in Dublin’s Irish Film Institute, Eustace Street, Temple Bar, Dublin, Ireland.
Festivals:
While the festival season comes to an end for the most part after Electric Picnic draws their curtains at the start of September there is still one very exciting festival taking place all over Dublin, The Fringe Festival will see up and coming acts perform all over Dublin City.
This year’s focus is on power and pleasure and this will be demonstrated in many formats through many performances. We are proud supporters of the Fringe and we hope you can come and enjoy the activities of this year’s special performances.
Sport:
GAA
The big event of the year takes place September 1st in Croke Park. Where Dublin take field to try write their names in the history books by making it five in a row, while Kerry try to bring the Sam back to the kingdom since 2009.
This is going to be a magnificent game in front of a no doubt sold out Croke Park and will certainly have Dublin alive and kicking all weekend.
All Ireland Camoige Final takes place September 8th and although we know Galway will be there we are waiting on the result of the second semi final.
The 15th of September is the All Ireland Ladies Final will take place in Croke Park and with the Semi-Finals this weekend we are excited to see who will face each other on September 15th.
Soccer:
Ireland take on Switzerland on September 5th in the Aviva Stadium for the Euro 2020 Qualifiers, hopefully Mick McCarthy can lead the boys in green to a win at the beginning of September.
Rugby:
With the World Cup fast approaching (one month away at time of writing) Ireland will take on Wales and Scotland in two warm up games in the Aviva Stadium, 7th and 22nd of September respectively.
Joe’s army are hoping to polish off the edges and go to Japan with a depth in Squad like never seen before. We will be showing all the Ireland Rugby World Cup Games Live at The Marlin Hotel.
